How long do inverters last on a solar panel system?

As a solar panel supplier, we are often asked about the life expectancy of an inverter on a solar panel system. The answer is dependent on many factors, and we will delve into all of these in this article.

Inverter Type

String Inverters: 10 to 20 years. These are the most common inverter.

Microinverters: 15 to 30 years. These are installed at each panel and tend to last longer, or match the lifespan of your solar panel system, however they are more costly than other types of inverters.

Power Optimizers: 20-25 years. Power optimizers work with string inverters and have a similar lifespan of microinverters.

Usage

When inverters are used very often in solar panel systems which generate a lot of power, more wear and tear will be experienced. In Malta, due to a large amount of sunny days, the components are used much more.

Maintenance and Cleaning

It is important to regularly maintain both your solar panel system and your inverter. You can find more information about how to maintain your solar panel system here.
